Divine love is not the same as our love. It is not the love of a parent for a child or the passion of lovers or the love of brothers, though these are all embraced by divine love. Divine love is not a feeling but an action, an act of will. God loves in sending His Beloved Son. God is love, and His love is seen in the Beloved.
Divine love is eternal, it never dies but endures forever. It is patient and kind, not jealous or boastful, not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful. It does not rejoiced at wrong but in what is right. Divine love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things, forgives all things. God loved the world in this way: He sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him and that He might be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
You are loved by God in the Beloved. You are of the Father’s love begotten, born again of water and Spirit by the Word. You were beloved of God before you loved God, before you even knew of Him or believed in Him, you were loved by God in His Beloved.
God is love; therefore His children love with His divine love. As the beloved of God, let us love one another, for we are born of God and know God, and are loved by God in His beloved Son. We cannot see God, at least for know, but we can see one another. And so we love God in one another, and His love is perfected in us.
